My name is Alvin Holder, I worked with Wesley at the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department for 30 years. He was a Co-worker and a Friend, whom I have tremendous respect and love for. Wesley had the passion and zeal to be the best he could be. He loved his job as a Leisure Service professional and a public servant. This was always displayed through his dedication and loyality to the patrons, staff and department of the City of Tampa. Wesley was a rare breed of an individual that inspired me and others to want Parks and Recreation to be the best it could be, whether it was computerizing forms or enhancing what we offered to the public, he maintained that zeal to do more, to be better and to continually move forward in the field of leisure services. Even when Wesley retired his heart and sole was still with Parks and Recreation because he did something that I have never seen before during a retirement celebration. The retirement was suppose to be about him and he made it about other individuals who had donated time and time again to his recreational programs and he took that moment (his moment) to honor those individuals. This left an everlasting impression on me. All that I believed and felt about his dedication to our profession, I knew at that time it was true. Again, as I mentioned earlier he was a rare individual. On a person note he was a friend that I could count on to be there in need. I am a very private person and he was one of the only individuals I could really talk to about personal issues and knew that those things would stay amongst us. Many in the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation will miss Wesley because he touched so many lives but no one outside of his family could miss him as much as I do. He will live forever in my mind and heart.
To his Family, look to God for strength and in time the pain will get easier to bare.
GOD bless you all,
