Susan Scully's Obituary
Susan (Sue) Marie Durrett Scully, age 74, of Gainesville, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Born on March 27, 1950, in Nashville, Tennessee, Sue was the beloved daughter of the late John and Lorraine Durrett.
Sue graduated from St. Cecilia’s Academy in Nashville in 1968. Driven by a passion for healthcare, she pursued higher education, earning an Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy from Lexington Technical Institute in 1971, followed by a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from the University of Kentucky in 1975. Continuing her commitment to learning, she obtained a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Florida in 1980.
After marrying her beloved husband, Edward A. Scully, on November 21, 1981, Sue dedicated many years to her profession as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. She found fulfillment in helping others and was a valued member of the healthcare community.
Beyond her professional life, Sue had a vibrant spirit and cherished many interests. She found joy in singing as a member of the church choir, lending her voice to hymns and celebrations. A talented baker and cake decorator, she poured her creativity into her culinary creations, most notably crafting the beautiful wedding cakes for both of her stepdaughters.
Suse is survived by her loving brother, John Durrett (Candy). She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rick and Pat Durrett, and her husband, Edward. She will be deeply missed by her stepdaughters, Therese LeGrow and her husband Mike, and Suzanne Hackman and her husband Dan, as well as her numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
Sue’s kind heart, dedication to her profession, and artistic talents will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Temple Terrace on May 10, 2025 at 11am. The church address is 502 Druid Hills Rd, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. Interment will take place later this summer in Albion, MI at St. James Church.
