Sue was a wondrous person! I met her in Birmingham in 1980 and was continuously amazed by her unflinching spirit of determination and adventure. We attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church together and worked side by side at South Highlands Hospital. She and Ed were the most supportive of friends in the early days of women's ordination. They were there whenever I needed encouragement, companionship, celebration or understanding amidst disappointment. We played, laughed, cooked and discussed how to save the world. I helped them move to Boston for seminary, literally riding the entire distance with Sue. They were acolytes in my wedding in 1987 and I was there for Bon Bon's funeral. As we went in different directions, we kept in touch by phone before the days of cell phones, computers and Facebook. We met in Fremont, Albion, Charleston, Sedona, Tampa, and many times in Nashville and Huntsville. Throughout her illnesses, she kept on charging ahead - learning cake decoration, selling Pampered Chef and photographing weddings! If it caught her interest. she would give it a try! I thank God for her presence in my life, and in the circle of many other friends wherever she lived. She was a blessing and we each carry her in our hearts with gratitude.
