Dear Family of Mama Shirley,
In truth, I don’t have personal memories of Shirley but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her because of our dear friends Danny and Tina. Over the years they both have shared countless stories about his mom and family and their deep love and respect always shines through those memories and stories. It wasn’t hard to see her steadfastness, tenacity, love of family and God through their eyes. When I found out that her name was Shirley, the same as my mom, I called her Mama Shirley when talking with them about the updates on her health journey because through them I felt like I knew her even though I had only met her once. While Tina and Danny spent countless hours caring for Mama Shirley they were also supporting me and my husband after I was diagnosed with breast cancer, through my struggles with my own mother’s journey with dementia and her death and offered so much love and hands on help. We will be forever grateful for their love, support and friendship in good times and the hard times.
I’ve heard so much about how your family has come together around your mom in her times of need and that’s a rarity in this world. It’s evidence of the goodness, strength and love that your parents created together.
We are so very sorry that you all are having to let go of your precious mother, grandmother and friend in this life but celebrate with you in her home going and eternal rest with God.
In Sympathy,
Brenda and Stan Garrison
