Lloyd Roger Lucas' Obituary
Lloyd Roger Lucas, 67, passed away July 27, 2015 at the Melech Hospice House after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 7, 1947 in Panama City, Florida to the late Lloyd and Ammie (Harrelson) Lucas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Hooker in 1987.
Lloyd retired from the New York Times newspaper with over 36 years of service. He worked at the Star Banner in Ocala, Florida; The Ledger in Lakeland, Florida and the Times News in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He started setting hot type, taught himself to type and worked his way to department head.
He was an active member of Thonotosassa United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Beverly; children, Shannon Lucas, Lisa Rast, Jeannie Carlos and Dawn Helton; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Clentis Lucas; sisters, Faye Haddock, Marie Vaugh, Joyce Burchfield and Diane Barfuss.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Thonotosassa United Methodist Church, 11905 Fort King Highway, Thonotosassa, Florida.
