Aunque no tuve la bendición de compartir mucho contigo durante mi niñez y mi adolescencia, me acuerdo de cuando ibas a DR y te quedabas con nosotros y te sentabas en la galería bebiendo café viendo las montañas…fuiste el primero que me dijo que me podía casar porque me había quedado bien un pavo! “La comadre pri pri ya se puede casar si”…Eras el único abuelo que me quedaba y atesoraba los momentos en los que podía compartir contigo y escuchar tus historias, fuiste un ejemplo de no temerle al trabajo duro y siempre tener fe. Estoy tan agradecida por tu vida y agradecida con Dios por hacerme parte de ti y tu historia. Me duele demasiado que no estés…quiero que mis memorias tuyas sean sonriendo y narrando tus vivencias, Te quiero mucho, se que estás bien, brillando muy bonito…cuídame tú también.

You were always the calmest, yet most commanding presence in the room. Thank you for being such a role model to not only your children, but your grandchildren. From early on, your work ethic inspired me and helped me become the man I am today. I will miss your funny stories and all the fruits you would give us. Most of all, I’ll miss how you brought us all together.

Saying you’ll be missed is an honest, simple statement... Seeing how much love and respect your beautiful family has for you, is beyond an understatement. I look at your family where so much genuine love exists, and think: it all started with you. To me, the garden doesn’t grow (literally or figuratively) without your hands. As a relative outsider, you made it known I was welcome in your family. I am beyond humbled by that generosity. I already miss your stories even though my Spanish wasn’t the best. It’s tough to express every sentiment and memory, especially when a few words aren’t enough. If you haven’t bumped into my dad yet, you guys will bump into each other soon. Probably in the garden.

The best family I could ever ask for is thanks to you for being the man, the father and grandfather you are. The lessons and wisdom you’ve given us has been passed down from our parents, to us grandchildren and will be passed down to our children and they will pass it down to theirs and so on. A true head of the family is what I would use to describe you. Thank you for everything Abuelo, we love you endlessly.

Así le decía y así le seguiré diciendo. Gracias por todo el cuidado, cariño y consejo en una jornada larga de la vida. También por enseñarme a no temerle al trabajo, porque en esto fuiste un buen campeón ejemplar. Recuerdo una vez cuando usted quería limpiar dos acres de terreno con dos machetes y también otra vez en tiempos de elecciones Presidenciales en los Estados Unidos, le preguntaron a los estudiantes en la escuela de mi hija Zahbiana en ese entonces de 5 años quien ella quería que fuera Presidente y ella respondió “mi abuelo porque todo lo hace con su manos” esta niña de solo 5 años ya observaba que usted era incansable. Sabemos que estas en un mejor lugar con nuestro Padres Celestial Adonai. Te extrañare para siempre.

Tuve el priviegio de vivir con usted por 11 anos y puedo decir sin mentir que nunca peleamos porque usted siempre mostro respeto y amabilidad hacia mi. Gracas porque mis hijos tuvieron ese calor de abuelo diariamente por esos 11 anos que compartimos juntos y ese amor siguio igual despues que estuvimos en casas separadas. De recien casada llegue a su casa y fue lo mejor que me pudo pasar porque no sabia ni como cortar un pollo y usted me enseno. Fueron momentos de muchas risas y cuentos que siempre llevare conmigo.
