Edward Anthony Scully's Obituary
Edward Anthony Scully (affectionately known as FrEd), 78, of Temple Terrace, formerly of Albion, MI, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019, at home. He was born November 13, 1940 in San Francisco, CA to Edward A. and Bernice H. (Leopold) Scully.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan D. Scully; and daughters Therese (Mike) LeGrow, and Suzanne (Dan) Hackman. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Edward held a Bachelorʼs Degree in Psychology (1973) and a Masterʼs Degree in Educational Counseling (1975) in Psychology from the University of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA. He also held a Masters of Divinity (1987) from Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA.
Edward spent 50 years as a Respiratory Therapist, and the past 31 years also as an Episcopal Priest. Since 2010 he was employed as the Priest in Charge (part time) at St. Elizabethʼs Episcopal Church in Zephyrhills, FL before retiring this past November. During this time he was also an Instructor at Concorde Career Institute, Tampa, FL teaching Respiratory Therapy.
Ed was ordained as a Deacon on June 3, 1987 through the Anglican Church of Canada. He was ordained as a Priest on May 29, 1988 through the Anglican Church of Canada.
From 1994-2009 Ed was the Rector for St. Jamesʼ Episcopal Church in Albion, MI. During his time in Albion he founded FrEdʼs Kitchen Community Saturday Night Dinners. He was a Chaplain for Battle Creek Health System and Good Samaritan Hospice. From 2006-on he was President and a Board Member of Albion Interfaith Ministries. From 1997-1999 he was the President of Albion Habitat For Humanity.
From 1989-1994 he was the Rector for St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, in Fremont MI, with St. Markʼs Episcopal Church in Newaygo, MI. While in Newaygo he was the Spiritual Advisor for Hospice of Newaygo County and the Associate Chaplain at Gerber Memorial Hospital and the Newaygo County Medical Care Facility. Ed was also the President of Habitat for Humanity of Newaygo County, MI.
From 1987-1989 he was the Priest in Charge at St. Markʼs Anglican Church - Minnedosa, Manitoba with St. Johnʼs Memorial Church, Bethany, Manitoba.
Beginning in 1975 and continuing until 1984 Ed taught Respiratory Therapy at Skyline College, San Bruno, CA (1975-1977), Santa Fe Community College, Gainesville, FL (1977-1981) and University of Alabama Birmingham, Birmingham, AL (1981-1984).
Edʼs professional memberships included, American Association for Respiratory Care, Fellow 2013, Michigan Society for Respiratory Care, Life Member, American Association for Respiratory Care, Life member, California Society for Respiratory Care, 1963-1977, Kappa Delta PI, 1978-Present, Phi Delta Kappa, 1978-Present.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church, 502 Druid Hill Road, Temple Terrace, FL 33617 on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 2pm. There will be a visitation at church on Friday evening, September 13, 2019 between 7-9pm.
