From our first meeting, Dan was my Wingman. As a premier Southern Gentleman, Dan was insistent that his wife take the passenger's front seat and he take the back on this first occasion when I was to drive him to an out-of-town doctor's appointment. "No, I insisted," knowing he was having pain in his knees and hips. "Since you are so tall," I continued, "you will be more comfortable in the front, where there is more legroom. Besides, those two in the back couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag, so I need you beside me to help with navigation. You will be my Wingman." With that instant "promotion," the front seat became a point of power, a job assisting the pilot. We were now a team; we were Wingman and Wingwoman. With the partnership now registered in the 'Smith Book of Projects', both in and out of the car, my Wingman soon called for help removing a sizeable limb from a massive oak tree in the front yard. As his Wingwoman, I could not refuse, though my stomach was rolling like a Disney ride. One slow step at a time, I managed to reach the top of that 12' ladder, and with trembling hands, promptly dispatched that monster limb. Safely on the ground and pretty proud I didn't need to change my jeans, I glance over to see my loyal Wingman bent over laughing and laughing. With tears of laughter in his eyes, he choked out, "You were the only one I could get to climb that big ladder." Dan left us on July 1, 2025, to be with Our Lord. A good man, a great friend...I will always miss my Wingman. Love and Admiration Always, Sue White
