Willie Joshua Hannah's Obituary
Willie Joshua Hannah was born to Pamela Deniece Gibbons Hannah and Willie Jay Hannah on February 10, 1994 in Tampa, Florida. He was educated through the Hillsborough County school system receiving his diploma from Tampa Bay Tech, later earning an AA from HCC and his Bachelor’s of Fine Art’s (Acting) from the University of South Florida. He graced our lives with an extraordinary tapestry of laughter, kindness, and an unwavering passion for life. Willie was a passionate, committed activist, author, playwright and actor. He served as Minister of Education in the New Black Panther Party, a community organization dedicated to advancing equality for people of color. Beyond his leadership role, Willie mentored youth in the community, participated in service projects, and stood on the front lines of protests against the injustices faced by people of color. A true revolutionary, He is a two time published author and has written many plays devoted to giving black actors leading roles. He founded Black Water Theatre formally known as Fluid Expressions with his best-friend India Davison. Together they produced shows in the community and as yearly participants in the Tampa Bay Theatre Festival. Willie didn’t just speak about change—he lived it.
He was proceeded in death by his father: Willie Jay Hannah.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving, dedicated and devoted mother Pamela Deniece Gibbons Hannah.; Grandparents Mary and Joseph Williams; Aunts and uncle Cheryl Jackson, Edith & Wilbert Standberry; Favorite cousin’s Markela Jackson and LeEddy Curry.; Adopted sisters and brother Suzette Cowan, Tscharner and Darius Oladele.; Best Friend India Davison. Also, a host of family and friends.
Willie shared meaningful relationships with family, friends, and countless others, each creating their own special memories with him. He had a remarkable gift for making everyone he encountered feel valued and cherished.
