Wanda Marie Horning's Obituary
Wanda Marie Horning, 89, passed away December 4, 2016. She was born August 28, 1927 in Pounding Mill, Virginia to the late Mercer and Lyda (Adkins) Thomas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Russell, Lewis and Charles; and sisters, Lois and Gladys.
Wanda came to the Tampa area in 1958 from Huntington, West Virginia. Over the years she travelled extensively, living in the American west and Italy, but always thought of south Tampa as home.
She loved to travel and was proud she'd been to the places she'd visited and lived. The inability to do this was one of the things she missed as got older and became infirm. She was a protestant and member of the American Legion. She was a Circle K Manager for over 10 years and enjoyed reading and baseball.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Howard Brown and his wife Lisa of Woodstock, Virginia; Ava Williams of Tampa, Florida and Bernadine Gillette and her husband Jeff of Bangor, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Gage, Boomer, Zachary, Jamie and Michael.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, Florida 33592.
After Wanda was unable to travel she would say with a smile "a book was always the best trip she could go on." In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to honor the life of Wanda Marie Thomas Horning to the Tazewell County Library, PO Box 929, Tazewell, Virginia 24651.
