Scott Howarth Bronleewe M.D.'s Obituary
Scott Howarth Bronleewe, M.D. 59, passed away July 2, 2017. He was born October 10, 1957 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to the late Colonel Thomas and Margaret (Howarth) Bronleewe.
Scott graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1975, Emory University in 1979 and University of South Florida Medical School in 1982. He was the President of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity; member of the Varsity Swimming Team; Surgical Student of the Year in 1982; and Administrative Chief Resident for the Department of Surgery in 1986. Dr. Bronleewe served his residencies at, University of South Florida College of Medicine for General Surgery from 1982-1987 and was then Administrative Chief Resident from 1987-1988; followed by the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship 1988-1989. He worked for Cardiac Surgery Associates of Tampa from 1990 till his retirement in 2016. He also served as Chief of General Surgery for University Community Hospital 1994-1996 and later Chief of Staff there 2000-2001; and President of the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons 2014-2016.
He enjoyed sailing, grilling, shooting and was a devoted cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon. His life’s work of helping others was his passion.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of four years, Kellyanne; daughters, Lauren Cotton and her husband Barnaby of London, England; Kelly Bronleewe of Tampa and their mother, Judith Ranney of Tampa; sisters, Sue Wilson and her husband Rick of Slocumb, Alabama; and Yamile Kahn and her husband Larry of Potomac, Maryland; nieces, Sonia Kahn McGuire and her husband Nicholas; and Krista Watson and her husband Garrett; nephews, Benjamin Kahn and Mathew Wilson; also, 8 grand nieces & nephews; 10 great, and 2 great great; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne & Kim Crowell, Denise & Pete Harris, Vincent Crown and Edwina Baker.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thontosassa, Florida. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 followed by interment in Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pepin Heart Institute. There will be a reception to follow from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Compton Park Clubhouse in Tampa Palms, 16101 Compton Drive, Tampa, Florida 33647. Memories and condolences may be left online at www.sunset-fh.com.
