John Connors
Four Evergreen
Taking tiny bites as his family waits for it's toe-head little boy to calmly masticate.
He's aiding his digestion, two older brothers growing mad,
mom always sat wondering what it'd be like with dad.
The fast-food dine thins out, older boys have long been done,
they're in the greatest hurry to do nothing with someone.
Heave oranges at trucks, skip the frisbee,
burn down a barn and acres of trees.
Football on the median, end zones marked by palms,
Joe's routes were simple, "run fast, for the bomb!"
David didn't play often, football not his bit,
but when he did a little clumsy but, you felt it when he hit.
Mom and I liked dancing with Beatles in Lennon's "Rain",
I realizing pleasure, mom realizing pain.
Older boys always busy outside, growing mad
and mom always sat wondering what it'd be like with dad.
Mom always sat wondering what it'd be like with dad.
Mom always sat wondering...
For Mom, Joe & David,
