Roger "Dennis" Langston's Obituary
Roger “Dennis” Langston, 73, of Thonotosassa, Florida passed away peacefully at South Florida Baptist Hospital on February 6th surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his partner of almost fifteen years, Bridget Barbour of Thonotosassa and his son Jason Langston (Jami) of Tampa. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Jordan and Jackson, who affectionately call him Papa. Survivors also include his sisters Marilyn Swanson (Ed) of Temple Terrace and Cyndi Schwab, also of Temple Terrace as well as his aunt Isabel Cox of Tampa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Langston and Margaret Beck Langston of Temple Terrace. Dennis was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. He was a graduate of King High School and attended Roosevelt Elementary in South Tampa, where he wandered the neighborhood between El Prado and Euclid with boyhood friends, all riding their bicycles and taking turns on his dirt bike in the fields nearby. He spent many hours playing baseball at Chapman Field and enjoyed putting together car models with many parts in preparation for moving on to the real thing-cars with motors that he could race on a track. Dennis went on to become a Florida racing legend, ironically racing the number 73.
Through the years Dennis had many hobbies from boating to flying his plane to collecting cars and taking trips with Bridget. Taking off in the motor coach together to attend NASCAR races was one of his favorites. But, where he spent most of his time was at Langston’s Used Auto Parts. This was his happy place and a place that he could be found on the forklift organizing cars or behind his desk buying cars. He took pride in the appearance of Langston’s and don’t dare call it a junkyard; it was a salvage yard and those that have seen it would agree. He was so proud that Langston’s was celebrating 100 years this year as a family owned and operated business.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 20th at Sunset Memory Gardens from 5:00-7:00pm. The memorial service will be held Friday, February 21st at 10:00am at Sunset Memory Gardens 11005 US-301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
