Robert Ropiza's Obituary
Robert Ropiza, born on January 5, 1945, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, passed away surrounded by the love of the family he cherished above all else. He was the beloved son of Celestino and Cecilia Ropiza. Robert was predeceased by his four brothers, with whom he shared an exceptionally close bond. They were not only siblings but his very best friends in life — a connection built on loyalty, laughter, and lifelong love. He is survived by his sister, who also shared in that deep family closeness.
Raised in Brooklyn, New York, and Norwalk, Connecticut, Robert developed the strength, resilience, and determination that would define his life. In 1973, he moved to Tampa, Florida, where he built both his career and the life he was so proud of.
Robert shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Linda Ropiza. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family. He leaves behind his children: Janet Marino (Ernest), Roberto Ropiza (Iris), Shawn Ortiz (Lisa), Michael Ropiza, and Marissa Ropiza Segallos. He was also the proud patriarch of a large and loving family that includes his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
He built a respected career as a waterproofer and restoration specialist, contributing to significant projects throughout the Tampa Bay area. His skilled hands and dedication were part of notable landmarks such as the Tampa Skyway Bridge, Busch Gardens, the Hard Rock Café Casino, and many historic restorations across the region. He took great pride in his work and in leaving a lasting mark on the community he called home.
A lifelong runner, Robert embraced challenges with enthusiasm and grit, completing many races throughout his life — including the Disney Marathon at the age of 53. His love of sports was constant, especially baseball and boxing, which he followed passionately.
In retirement, Robert continued to live boldly and fully. He treasured time with his family — they were always his first priority. He loved to travel and fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking his beloved Linda to Spain for their 50th wedding anniversary, a memory they both cherished deeply. Never one to shy away from adventure, he even went skydiving at the remarkable age of 77, proving that courage and zest for life have no age limit.
Robert will be remembered for his strength, determination, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and lived fearlessly. His legacy is not only in the structures he helped build and restore, but in the generations of family who will carry forward his spirit, values, and love.
He ran his race with endurance, heart, and purpose. And though he has crossed his final finish line, the impact of his life will continue to echo through every story told, every tradition carried on, and every act of love shared in his honor.
