Pouran Dokht Dean's Obituary
Pouran Dean was born in Kerman, Iran on November 30, 1930. From childhood she was an ardent believer in the Baha’i Faith which was the foundation of her morals, beliefs, and actions for her entire life. Her family moved to Shiraz, Iran when she was young and in this historical city she grew up. Her and her family were active in the local Baha’i community and were mentored by distinguished Baha’is from a young age.
With great difficulty, she navigated the education system in Iran as it was unfriendly to both women and Baha’is. Nevertheless, she became a veterinarian at University in Tehran, Iran, with a specialty in birds. Almost all her classmates were men and she had to fight for her just place, which she did with dignity and firmness.
She came to New York in the early 1960s where she married her husband for life, Ardeshir. Later they moved to New Jersey where they raised their three sons and many other relatives and friends who were in need. After retiring she and her husband moved to Florida where she continued her service and hospitality.
Pouran lived a life of service to humanity. This was everything to her. She was especially hospitable and giving with food and hospitality in her home or that of others. Everywhere she was and everything she did was about helping others and advancing the Baha’i Faith and its teaching. She would have large and small fireside meetings to share the Faith and with her direct and frank personality shared the message with many more one on one. She guided many to enroll in the Faith and many more to be enlightened by its teachings. Those that knew her will never forget her spirit and staunch faith.
Pouran is survived by her husband Ardeshir, her three sons Robert, Mark, and David, and her dearly loved daughter in law Afsaneh, in addition to her seven grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Kasmira, Aliyah, Breakwell, Sophia and Jacob.
She passed peacefully at 95 years of age after an exemplary life filled with serving others. Her soul is now beaming with light and joy in the unseen World of God.
