Reverend Orville Ray Moyer Sr's Obituary
Orville was born September 24, 1938, in East St. Louis, Illinois. On May 20, 2025, he was sent to his mansion, just over the hilltop on the eternal streets of glory. There he joined his sons Junior, Charlie, and Clinton. Orville was the beloved son of Isaac Copeland Moyer and Addis Beulah Leverett, he was one of thirteen kids. He leaves to cherish fond memories; his loving and beautiful wife, Joyce Dorothy Moyer and two daughters; Lisa Diane Valentine and Teresa Ann Moyer-Comeau, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and two on the way, his brother Kenneth “Butch” Moyer and his sister Debbie Sue Moyer and his sister-in-law Helen Moyer and a host of other loving friends and family.
Orville was affectionately known and loved by all. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Harney in Tampa for many years. Orville has been spreading the words of God since he was 17 years old. He spoke his first message at state highway Baptist Church spreading the words of God for 70 years. Orville, was a preacher that spoke the truth, never lied about anything he was a snort stomping preacher. He poured his heart and soul preaching the good news. The pulpit was just a wooden stand, but the pulpit felt the power of God's hands through him. He taught us that Jesus hears your prayers and that he is walking with you everywhere and no matter what you’ve done you are always loved.
He loved to sing and play the harmonica for the new glory bound singers. His favorite songs were, “Until you’ve known the Love of God”, “Sweet Beaulah Land”, and “How great thou Art”.
His favorite Verse in the Bible was, II Chronicles 7:14 KJV
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
A few days before his passing he was asked what the best advice you can give. His answer was “To Put God First”.
I can only imagine how he felt the moment he took his last breath and was in his new body, face to face with our Lord and Savior, his boys, his mother and father, and his family that were already there waiting on him at the pearly gates. This is what he always preached about. And if you want to see him again you know what you have to do. There is only one way and that's through Jesus Christ our Lord.
"I love you forever and a day"
