Nancy Lopez's Obituary
Born October 15, 1945, in Ironwood, Michigan, to Esther and Calvin Doriot, Nancy's well-lived life ended peacefully when she joined her parents in heaven on Monday, June 17, 2022 and started her journey into a new life!
Nancy's sudden death is heartbreaking for her family and friends.
No doubt she will be remembered for the way she lived her life, full of love, joy, caring and giving!
Nancy leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her beloved son Anthony (Sheryl) and her caring daughter Teresa (Staś); siblings Ruth (David), Bob (Joan), Jim (Janella), Chris (Tracy) the best baby brother a big sister could ask for; grandchildren Raquel (Ben), Casey Rae (Michael) and Kristin (Ron); great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as life-long friends: Norma, Donna, Glenna, Eddyth and Theresa. Last, but not the least, a host of faithful furbabies (not Duffy) Remi, Sarah, Cleo, Dupa, Taddy, Charlie and Paczki (she called him Pishki).
One of five siblings, Nancy lived in Wakefield, Wisconsin, until the age of ten when the family moved to Milwaukee. She attended WISCO, Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Wauwatosa. Not long after, she met the love of her life, sailor Tony Lopez at a USO dance in Milwaukee. They were married for 18 years and had two children, Anthony (aka "little Tony") and Teresa. They remained friends to the very end! She liked visiting Tony and enjoyed his 'almost' world famous coffee con leche and Cuban bread!
When the children were young, Nancy worked as a secretary.
She was a vibrant, generous and playful spirit who made the world a kinder, more loving and fun place! She was a social butterfly who could talk to anyone about anything.
In Nancy's early years, she bowled in a league with girlfriends, took many canoe trips with her family down the Hillsborough River, and loved to follow ambulances with her children for the sheer excitement!
She became quite the hustler shooting pool! She played on a team and competed locally. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Loved spending time with her Mom, baking goodies and making homemade strawberry jam.
Some of her favorite pastimes were: to play bingo, tend to her pineapple plantation in her backyard or play Texas Holdem at the Deerfield Moose Lodge with her dear friend Theresa. She liked going to the spa and participating in water aerobics. She was quite competitive in cards and board games, her favorites being Canasta, Blokus and Catan.
Nancy found joy in listening to her baby brother and granddaughters sing, probably because she couldn't carry a tune! Raquel, at the age of 18 months said, "Gamma, don't sing!"
Even after moving to Florida, Nancy continued to be an avid Green Bay Packer fan! She loved being surrounded by her family especially around the holidays so she could recruit them for the assembly line, making banana bread and pasties. We will certainly miss the aroma of her baked goods!
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up and totally worn out, with a piece of chocolate cake with caramel frosting in one hand and a glass of Jack & Coke in the other and loudly proclaiming, "WooHoo! What a ride!" ~Author unknown
Nancy has passed on to the next grade adventure and is probably causing a stir along the way. Her final advice to us all was to remember to have fun! So in lieu of flowers, she'd encourage you to enjoy a favorite meal!
Her beautiful spirit will be missed, but the wonderful memories will live on forever in our hearts!
Love you: Mom, Grandma, Auntie and friend!
Godspeed and thanks for the legacy!
