Modesta Acosta Lizano's Obituary
Modesta Acosta Lizano age 89 of Tampa, Florida passed away on August 8, 2022 surrounded by her family. Modesta, daughter of Sixto Acosta and Amelia Lizano was born June 15, 1933 in Regla, Cuba. Modesta was 9 years old when she became orphaned with her brothers. Modesta quickly and steadfast stepped up to become the caregiver of her siblings.
Modesta fled Cuba at the age of 26 with her 5 year old son, Carlos. Modesta came to the United States widowed, standing her ground avoiding Fidel’s control and Communism. She sought America with determination, courage, and faith to provide a better future. Modesta went on to have two beautiful daughters, Yliana and Mercedes.
Modesta had always been dedicated and possessed a work ethic second to none. Everyone that knew her attributed her to be resilient, strong-willed, determined, a confidant, and an advisor all the while working from home as a couture seamstress. To name a few, she designed and sewed ladies’ apparel, complete ballet academy recitals costumes, private school uniforms, unique pieces for the Columbia Restaurant Flamenco dancers and violinist, and lastly, making brides dreams come true with just a magazine picture.
Modesta was known for her quick wit, positive attitude, and tremendous love for her children and family. She loved clothes, playing bingo, dominos and was a fierce Monopoly player.
Modesta is survived by her son Carlos A. Rodriguez and Catalina Febles, her daughter, Yliana & Victor Zamora Sr., her Grandchildren, Eric Rodriguez, Victor Zamora Jr & Wendy Zamora, Caryna & Britt Fuller, Vianca & Michael Danner, Giancarlos Rodriquez, Angeli Rodriguez, Natalia Rodriquez, and her great grandchildren, Charlotte and Easton Fuller, Lincoln Zamora, Mercie and Paisley Danner, and her brother, Lorenzo Lavalle
Modesta was preceded in death by her parents Sixto Acosta and Amelia Lizano, her brothers Jose Lavalle, Alfredo Lavalle and Antonio Lavalle her youngest daughter Mercedes Gigato, her husband Nemesio Rodriguez, Iser Gigato, and Jesus Porras.
