Mercedes Artiga's Obituary
Mercedes spent her early years as a devoted homemaker, always ensuring her children were involved in extracurricular activities such as dance and sports. She never missed a moment or milestone and was always present to support and encourage her family.
After her children were grown, Mercedes worked at the University of South Florida cafeteria for 14 years, where she became known for her warm personality and hardworking spirit. She retired in 1992 and spent the rest of her life doing what she loved most, being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mercedes Artiga was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 55 years, Eddie Artiga, and her daughter, Shirley Ann Artiga.
She is survived by her three children: Edward Artiga (wife Ana), Lydia Marino, and Mike Garcia, along with 10 grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the WBA family, who embraced Mercedes as one of their own and made her final years especially meaningful by showering her with love and affection.
We also wish to thank the Tampa boxing community, who brought joy, laughter, and friendship into her life, always keeping her smiling, dancing, and in good spirits.
A special thank you as well to the American Legion dances, which she faithfully attended every week and where she created many cherished memories.
Mercedes left this world surrounded by love and peace.
