Melvin Bacon's Obituary
Bacon, Melvin “Skeet,” 88, of Temple Terrace, Florida, passed away June 6, 2016, after a prolonged illness and under the care of Hospice. Born to Otis and Mary Bacon in Eustis, Florida, October 26, 1927, predeceased by his parents and loving wife, mother of his children, Barbara Ann P. Bacon, he is survived by three children, Carrie Louise Childs (David), Glenn Pafford Bacon (Tina), and Paul Melvin Bacon (Teresa), five grandchildren, Ashlie Hogan (Derrick), TJ Childs (Karen), Devon Bacon, Nate Childs, and Katie Bacon, six great grandchildren, and his loving companion, Helen Shoemaker, and her family. As a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and graduate of the University of Florida, Mel enjoyed all things orange and blue. Having moved his family to Temple Terrace in 1958, he worked for many years as a salesman/account executive for Seald Sweet growers before his retirement approximately 30 years ago. For many years, Mel was a member of Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club, playing golf as much as he could, as well as enjoying spending time with other members over dinner and drinks. Mel loved his church, Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, and was an ordained elder. Besides assisting in church matters, he gave time to Temple Terrace Little League for a number of years. He was a friend to everyone he met and the biggest fan of all his children and their families. While the man was called Melvin, Mel, Skeet, Daddy, Dad, and Pop has joined the Church Triumphant, he has left us with loving memories as to living graciously. The family is grateful for the dignity and support that Hospice and Visiting Angels provided for our loved one. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make donations to either or both Cedarkirk Camp and Conference Center, a presbytery covenant partner, and Judeo Christian Health Clinic, Inc.. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 AM, at Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church, 420 Bullard Parkway, Temple Terrace, Florida.
