Melita Leshawn Hylton's Obituary
Ms. Melita LeShawn Hylton was born in Brooklyn New York to mother, Jennifer Atkinson and father, Ian Hylton on July 28, 1981. She graduated from King High School. Melita was the free-spirited baby sister of our family and was such a multifaceted creative and skillful person and she made it look effortless. She was dedicated and dependable in her work and for others around her, especially for her family and friends. She was the go-to person to regularly care for her nieces and nephews who called her “Tita” when they were little because they couldn’t pronounce her name. Melita created decorations for parties, made her delicious sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving, Mac n Cheese for regular family gatherings that she learned how to make from her mom and sister Denise and she took those recipes, made it her own and it was no turning back. She loved to cook and always came up with different foods and deserts that were so delicious. She was the head of family game nights where we always had so much fun and laughter. She gathered her nieces and nephews together during the holidays to decorate eggs, cookies, and ornaments and create cards for their parents, the kids always loved going to her house for craft parties. Melita had one beautiful daughter, Makayla who was the light of her life and they did everything together. Melita was the “Stem” of our family Sunflower who kept it Blooming with fun, creativity, and joyful times.
She was preceded in death by: her brother, Patrick Coates whom went home to be with the Lord in 1994. Melita LeShawn Hylton moved on to be with the Lord and left us to help carry on her legacy, to bring fun and laughter to others. We are all so grateful to call you mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
