Mearle L Gentry's Obituary
Mearle Lesley Gentry, 92, of Plant City, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered for the remarkable family man he was.
Mearle proudly served his country with the US Air Force, full career, even retiring from military service. He became a master metal fabricator, able to fix even the most damaged aircraft. When he wasn’t working hard, he loved to fish, camp, work in his yard, or just be outdoors. More than anything else, he adored his family and spent every moment he could with them.
He was born to Willlie and Mae (nee Crabtree) Gentry November 4, 1932, in Galena, MO. He married the love of his life, Jean Warren, and spent 65 years being loving, supportive, and dedicated to each other. They raised 3 children together, and shared a beautiful life traveling, cruising, and enjoying their time together until Jean passed away in 2019.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean; his parents, Willie and Mae Gentry; and siblings, Jerald Dean Gentry, Colleen Essary, Ferman Eugene “Gene” Gentry, Hazel Gentry, Rathel Jonas Gentry, Judithann, and Ellie Gentry.
Mearle is survived by his loving children, Janet Gentry, Miles (Gail) Gentry, and Michael Gentry; grandchildren, Heather (Justin) Gentry Smithe, Sean Gentry, and Ryan Gentry; and one great-grandson, Wyatt Smithe.
Gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1-2pm, Funeral service to follow at 2-3pm, both at Sunset Funeral Home, 11005 N US Hwy 301, Thonotosassa, FL.
Mearle will be laid to rest next to Jean, at 3pm, at Sunset Memory Gardens, with well-deserved military honors.
