Rev. Dr. Mathai Abraham
February 6, 1949 – March 22, 2025
With deep sorrow and love, we announce the passing of Rev. Dr. Mathai Abraham, who went home to be with the Lord on March 22, 2025. Born prematurely on February 6, 1949, in Nangiarkulangara, Alapuzha, Kerala, he was the beloved son of M. Mathai and Kunjamma Mathai.
A man of deep faith and unwavering dedication, Mathai Abraham pursued a life of service and learning. He earned his MSc in Botany from Sagur University before following his calling into ministry, completing his theological studies at Vadavathur Bible School in Kottayam, Kerala. Beginning his ministry in 1973, he faithfully served as General Secretary of the DYP Youth Ministry of IPC for six years and pastored in Kerala for many years before immigrating to the United States in 1989.
Rev. Dr. Mathai Abraham embraced various careers and accomplishments throughout his life, but his passion for ministry never wavered. In 2017, he earned his Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy, and in 2021, he achieved his Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University. His commitment to serving others through faith and wisdom remained steadfast.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, who passed away on November 6, 2022. In the years that followed, he continued to be a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend to those who loved him most. He is survived by his son Wesley, his wife Lindsey, and their son Carter; his daughter Gifty, her husband Joe, and their children Joey, Helen, and Rosalie.
Rev. Dr. Mathai Abraham’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and love. His impact on his family, friends, and the communities he served will remain a lasting legacy.
Though we grieve his loss, we find peace in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior, reunited with his beloved wife, and surrounded by the eternal love of God.
