Mary B. Wood's Obituary
Mary B. Wood, 89, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side, Friday September 22, 2017. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 25, 1928 to the late Mabel and Otis Burnett. She was preceded in death by her husband Winford L. Wood in July of 2016. Her brothers Don Burnett and Junior Burnett and sister Dorthy Detweiler also greeted her in heaven. Mary left "Indy" in 1947, at the tender age of 19 and became a native Floridian, living the rest of her life here. She was of the Baptist faith, and would defend those dear friends in her inner circle to the ends of the earth. She went to bat for what she believed and those she loved, she was direct and spoke her mind. (A trait that her family carries with them.) She was passionate about children, she was a foster parent for seven years and later in life she was a teachers aide. Mary had a special knack with children who needed that extra special help to succeed in school. She was fun and liked to play, in her 70's she was still agile enough to climb trees! Doing artwork, cutting patterns, making clothes were just a few of her talents.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Manette R. Gullo and husband Ron of Plant City, FL, Zachary Wood and his wife Tina of Ashville, N.C., Sue Padgett and husband Derrik of Tampa, FL and Violet Wood of Tampa, Florida. Her sisters will share their memories Pauline O'Neal of LA, and Vivian Greer of TN. Mary's grandchildren Chris Wood, Raymond Padgett, Zachary Wood Jr., CJ Clark and Lee Silas will carry on her legacy. Her great grandchild Hunter Silas will miss her too.
Caring for those we love is a blessing yet can be challenging, her three loving daughters were her angels that made that commitment to keep her in her own home and be her caregivers.
We ask you to lift the family up during this time.
A service will be held Saturday September 30th, 11:00am at Whitehurst Road Baptist Church in Plant City, Florida 33563
