Mary Florine Salka's Obituary
Mary Florine Salka, age 76, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on April 6, 2026, during a surgical procedure at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel.
She was born on September 27, 1949, in Tampa, Florida, to Henry and Florine Roder.
Mary Salka was a truly unique kind of person—someone you could only fully understand if you had the privilege of knowing her. She was her own kind of woman, full of strength, individuality, and a presence that left a lasting impact on those around her. And many lives, she did impact.
She faced life’s challenges with resilience and determination, and her love for her family remained constant. She shared a deep and unique bond with her children—one that will never be broken, even in her absence.
She is survived by her three children: Jason Weesner, Jonathan Kushner, and Rachel McCall. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Andrew, Jesiah, Noah, Mila, Haven, Julianna, and Derek. She is further survived by her older brother, Doc, and her older sister, Frances, as well as her nieces: Christina, Valerie, and Yvette.
There are countless others who are grieving her loss and who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Mary began her lifelong commitment to service in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, where she served as a Second Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in July 1971. She then went on to build a career in nursing that spanned more than 40 years.
After several years of bedside nursing, she transitioned into a path where she could make an even broader impact. She became a highly respected legal nurse consultant, driven by a deep passion for advocating for individuals and families affected by medical malpractice.
Her dedication and excellence earned her multiple Legal Nurse Consultant Awards, and she served for many years as President of her local chapter of the Nurses Association. In 1993, she was honored as “Woman of the Year” by the American Biographical Institute.
Outside of her career, Mary found her greatest joy in being with the people she loved-whether that meant gathering at a favorite local restaurant, spending time at a family member’s home, or finding any reason at all to celebrate. She cherished connection, laughter, and togetherness.
Those who knew her will remember her for her hair, her laugh, her smile, her strength, and her unwavering determination when she set her mind to something. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
