Mary F Mollard's Obituary
Mary Louise Fisher Mollard was born on September 24, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan to George and Dorothy Titerington Fisher. She had two sisters who have preceded her in death.
Mary's mother passed away when Mary was 7 months old and she was then raised, along with her sisters, by her 70-year-old grandmother in Canada until she was 8 years old. They lived on a subsistence farm which did not have running water or electricity. She attended a one room schoolhouse until she and her sisters returned to Detroit to live with their father when he remarried.
Mary was preceded in death by her son, Geoffrey Paul and is survived by her husband, Wesley Norman; sons, John Wesley (Martha) and James Andrew (Lourdes) and daughter-in-law, Michele Mollard; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mary attended St. Mathias Episcopal church in Detroit where at the age of 9 years, she met Wes, her future husband. They were married on November 25, 1952, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbia, South Carolina, and enjoyed 71 wonderful years of marriage together.
From her early childhood, Mary had a saving faith in Christ, her Savior, and a great joy in her salvation. This strong faith in God gave her joy in life.
In Columbia, she worked at GMAC while her husband attended the University. She was part of a group known as the PHTC (putting hubby through college).
Mary was a stay-at-home mom and used her time while her sons were in school to volunteer as church librarian, as well as librarian at the Christian school that her sons attended. In addition, she took adult education classes in art appreciation, painting, and flower arrangement. Mary's husband was transferred often to take up new work assignments, and her philosophy was "Wherever you go, I go."
Mary was always very active. In high school, she was on the varsity swim team, the Spanish club, and student government council. At church, she sang in the choir, played the organ and piano for the chapel services, and was active in the youth group. While living in Belgium, she was tutored in the French language, participated in the American Women's club activities, and was a member of a bowling team. While living in Tennessee, she attended The East Tennessee State University to study psychology. For many years, Mary was an active as a counselor for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Roanoke, VA. She had a welcoming demeanor which allowed many women to approach her for advice or just to listen.
After Wes retired, they traveled extensively until they acquired a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, and began to participate in the dog agility events, for which Mary acted as team captain and cheerleader.
In 2011, Mary and Wes moved to Wesley Chapel, FL, and became members of Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church
Mary's Celebration of Life service will be held at Tampa Bay Presbyterian Church, 19911 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11am.
