Mary Frances Drew's Obituary
Mary "Bobbie" Frances Drew passed away August 19, 2015. She was born October 4 in Tampa, Florida to the late Walter and Jessie (Cay) Crowe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Col. Lawrence Drew; sister, Louette Hackney; and brother, Walter Crowe, Jr.
Bobbie lived in Tampa until age 27, when she moved to Reading, Massachusetts and married the late Col. Lawrence Drew in 1945. Bobbie fully supported her husband in all of the weddings and functions he facilitated during his tenure as Reading Town Clerk (1970-1987) and as a 40-year veteran of the United States Air Force. She was a very accomplished seamstress and quilter, and took pride in making quilts for family, friends and charity. Bobbie was a member of the Nimble Thimblers Quilters Guild based in Reading. After serving over 50 years of membership she was awarded the Longest Member Award of the Reading Women’s Club. Bobbie also enjoyed sharing her cooking and baking with everyone, especially over the holidays. At a young age she perfected many different pies which became a staple at family gatherings.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Barry Drew of Odessa, FL; Pamela Drew of Weatogue, CT; grandchildren, Jeffrey Lawrence Drew and Jennifer Drew Collins.
Services will be held in Reading under the direction of Barile Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forrest Glen Cemetery in Reading, Massachusetts. Memories and condolences may be left online at www.sunset-fh.com.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Col. Lawrence and Mary Drew Scholarship Fund of Malden Catholic High School.
