Margaret Effie Mahoney's Obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Effie Mahoney went home to the Lord on March 15, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family at home. Peggy was born April 19, 1930, to George and Bessie Breland in Tampa, Florida, where she spent most of her life, except for the years she went traveling with her husband in the military. She had such an amazing ability to make anywhere they were stationed feel like home. Peggy was mother to 9 children, whom she raised with hard work, a gentle heart, great advice, and love of God.
Peggy was a kind and generous woman who loved to help others. She was involved with her community and a member of the German American club for 75 years. She also loved music and loved dancing, she found joy so easily in so many different places, but aways saw the best in people. Peggy had a grateful nature, and was most thankful for her family, whom she loved spending time with. She would often say, “I have the best kids!”.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 7 years, Tom Evans; 2 of her sons, Michael and James; and 2 of her daughters, Patricia Stewart and Barbara Buckner.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Kathy Brown and her husband Rod Brown, and 4 sons, Ed Mahoney and his wife Laurie, David Mahoney, Richard Mahoney and his wife Tobey, and Joseph Mahoney.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 2pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm, at Sunset Funeral Home, with burial to follow immediately at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N US Hwy 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
