Luz Maria Cruz was born September 18, 1944 and took her last breath on this earth on July 4, 2022 surrounded by family. “Lucy” as she was known to the world is survived by her children John Irizarry, Joanne Irizarry, Elizabeth Irizarry and Ricky Irizarry along with grandchildren Jessica Cuevas, Ricky Irizarry, Jr. and great-granddaughter Chelsea Carrera. Lucy is also survived by siblings Aida Velazquez, Betsaida Keays, Norma Quiñones, and many nieces, nephews, God children, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her spouse Juan Irizarry and siblings Ridzie Cruz, Felix Cruz, Mildred Cruz and Larry Cruz,
Lucy was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Felipe Cruz and Margarita Bello, both from Arecibo, Puerto Rico. As a very young child Lucy and her family moved to Brooklyn, New York where she settled, and lived most of her life. Her parents owned and operated a restaurant in Brooklyn where she worked and helped her family for many years.
Lucy was a dedicated wife who spent nearly 60 years with her beloved deceased spouse Juan or “Johnny” as he was lovingly known to everyone. Her entire life was spent caring for her children and loving on her family. Her name Luz translated into English means “light” and that is exactly what she radiated into everyone’s lives. She leaves us a legacy of the love and compassion she poured into everyone that ever encountered her. She will forever be remembered as “our angel” here on earth and her love and smile will live in our hearts through eternity.
