Luis Vega's Obituary
Reverend Luis Vega Sr., 71, a devoted Christian and minister of the Lord, passed on to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was born on March 23, 1951 to Antonio Vega and Anastasia “Ana” Vega. A 1969 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, Rev. Vega was born and raised in the beautiful island of St. Croix, where he met his first wife, Carmen Dolores Parrilla Vega, and had his four children, Carmen, Luis Jr., Sharon and Samuel.
Not long after having a personal encounter with the Lord, Rev. Vega began a ministry with his wife, Carmen, that included pastoring the Clifton Hill church, La Hermosa, in St. Croix and the 115 Street church in Miami, Florida. Rev. Vega is remembered for his wisdom, his passive character, his humor, and his endless devotion. Known as the “King of Dad Jokes” by those who love him most, he enjoyed Western films, watching baseball and basketball games, gardening and relaxing with a steaming cup of coffee. He was married for 39 years to Carmen and widowed in 2010.
Rev. Vega later married Mary Delourdes Velez in 2012 and spent the following 11 years of his life teaching and preaching the word in various congregations, fulfilling the calling of God in his life despite having battled with sickness for several years. He and Mary settled in Zephyrhills, FL in 2017 and became members of Iglesia De Dios El Santo de Israel, serving under the leadership of Pastora Mirian Estrada.
Rev. Vega is survived by his mother, Ana, his wife, Mary, his four children, his step children, Jose, Christian and Jessenia, and his eight grandchildren, Evaliz, Adam, Isaiah, Loreli, Ishmael, Jadiel, Julian, Elijah and Joshua. He’s also survived by his two great grandchildren, Emylee and Giovanni, and his siblings, Aurea, Miriam, Virginia, Lucy, Segunda and Edwin.
A funeral service will be held for Rev. Vega on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. The family will be celebrating his life at Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, Florida. He will be buried in the Garden of Honor, surrounded by his loved ones.
