Luis Raul Martinez's Obituary
Luis Raul Martinez was born in 1934 in Manati, Puerto Rico, to Maria Victoria Rodriguez and Ramon Martinez. He was one of seven children raised with strong values of faith, family, and perseverance that would shape the remarkable man he became.
God beautifully orchestrated a love story that would last a lifetime when Luis met the love of his life, Maria Mercedes Torres. Though their mothers both worked in a tobacco factory in Puerto Rico, they could have never imagined that one day their children would meet for the first time in Brooklyn, New York.
Luis and Maria were united in marriage on November 14, 1953, in New York, beginning a journey of unwavering love, devotion, and faith that would span 73 beautiful years. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with six beloved children; Judy, Heidi, David, Lourdes, Emmy, and Nathaniel; as well as 13 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, who became part of their beautiful legacy of love.
Driven by a deep desire to serve God more fully, Luis and Maria courageously entered Bible college at 50. Through dedication and faith, they graduated in 1983, proving that it's never too late to answer God's calling.
Shortly thereafter, Luis was ordained as pastor of Cristo Viene Church, where he and Maria faithfully ministered side by side for 10 years, touching countless lives with compassion, wisdom, and steadfast faith.
In 2014, they relocated to Florida and became devoted members of Tampa Bay Tabernacle, under the anointed leadership of Pastor Samuel Portalatin and his wife, Jenny. Their commitment to God and to His people continued to shine brightly wherever they went.
To his children, Luis was far more than a father. He was a pillar of strength, a provider, a protector, and the living example of God's love. They remember him as a hardworking, generous, and deeply caring husband and father, whose love knew no limits. There was truly no one like him, and no one could ever take his place.
His life reflected the very heart of what God's Word teaches a husband and father should be; faithful, humble, loving, and devoted.
Luis and his beloved Maria shared a marriage that stood as a true testament to enduring love, unshakable faith, and lifelong commitment. Their 73 years together were filled with sacrifice, joy, prayer, and unwavering devotion to God and to one another- a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
