Judith Schiavo's Obituary
Judith Schiavo, known to everyone as “Judy” and to her family as “Nana”, was very active in many different areas of her life. Having spent her younger years working in the carnival business, she was a proud member of the International Independent Showman’s Association where she contributed in many ways, but most notably with her Straw Game Fundraiser for the Scholarship Committee.
Having gone back to college later in life, she earned her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology; an accomplishment of which she was extremely proud. Judy worked for many years as the SLP for R.B. Stewart Middle School where her favorite role was working the special needs student population.
Outside of her professional life, Judy was extremely active in the community and within her church. She was an active member of SERTOMA, the Carrollwood Cultural Center, and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church parish where she was a well-known member of both the church choir and handbell choir, as well as an annual volunteer at Vacation Bible Camp. Some of her best memories from these activities included attending a Handbell Symposium in Toronto Canada and performing with her chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Closer to home, Judy was known as Nana. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family; especially her daughter and four grandchildren of whom she was fiercely proud. She regularly attended their events and performances and loved going on Disney adventures. She was always known for taking a million pictures at every encounter and requesting a caramel apple with peanuts be brought home for her from any Disney trip she could not attend.
Judy was proceeded in death by her parents; Thomas Mikloiche and Susan (Peskura) Mikloiche; her husband, Raymond “Duke” Schiavo; and her nephew, Andrew Novak.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Valerie Schiavo and Michael Mane; her four beloved grandchildren, Anola Sohl, Aiva Sohl, Alaric Mane, and Arri Mane; her brother and his wife, Thomas and Ingrid Mikloiche; her sister and her husband, Carol and Alan Novak and her niece and nephews, Rebecca Ashman, Tommy Mikloiche, and Timmy Mikloiche.
