Juan Irizarry's Obituary
Juan Irizarry aka “Toñin” or “Chamaquito” as he was kindly known to his beloved friends and family passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2022, surrounded by family.
He is survived by his wife Luz Cruz, children Alma Irizarry-Torres, Ivette Irizarry- Fueller, John Irizarry, Joanne Irizarry, Elizabeth Irizarry and Ricky Irizarry along with grandchildren Jessica Cuevas, Ricky Irizarry, Jr. and many more grandchildren; 2 half-sisters: Virginia Irizarry and Carmen Irizarry.
Juan was born on December 4, 1931, in Lares, Puerto Rico to Luis Irizarry and Cruz Ramos of Lares, Puerto Rico and was the last sibling preceded in death by Irene Irizarry, Marcelo Irizarry, Alma Esteva, Felipe Irizarry, Elisa Pagan, Maria Luisa Vazquez.
At the age of 12 Juan and his family moved to Brooklyn, New York where he settled and lived for nearly eight decades. He was a lifelong entrepreneur having owned and operated several businesses in New York to include car service and Mister Softee ice cream trucks.
Juan was a family man who spent nearly 60 years with his beloved wife Luz or “Lucy” as she is known to friends and family. He loved the ocean, antique cars and horses and had the most unique sense of humor and contagious laughter that would light up any room he entered! During the past 13 years he visited Florida frequently and spent the last few weeks of his life living with his wife Lucy and daughter Joanne in Riverview, Florida.
