Josephine Thomasson's Obituary
Josephine “Jo” Thomasson, 94, died peacefully at home May 21, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born July 26, 1927, near Roanoke, Virginia, and resided in Tampa for the last fifty five years.
Josephine lived her life in service to others. She began her thirty plus year work as an LPN at Roanoke Memorial Hospital followed by a multi-decadal position at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Jo loved to travel, to embark on cruises, camping, the great outdoors, and anything that bloomed. Josephine maintained a greenhouse where she used her “green thumb” to grow all types of plants, many of which she donated to be sold to help the needy. She had a passion for dolls and all things doll related, especially vintage dolls, as well as sewing. She used her passion to restore dolls, thereafter, donating her completed work to charity.
As a fifty plus year devoted member of Hillsborough United Methodist Church, upon retirement she worked tirelessly for over twenty years as a volunteer at the church sponsored thrift store, which raises funds to support those in need. She was a dedicated volunteer, working many days each week and always quick to step in if another volunteer was unable work.
Josephine welcomed all into her home, which was always appropriately decorated for the approaching holiday. Those who visited her would see her love of animals, crafting skills, and love for the cartoon character Snoopy.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, James “Tommy” Thomasson. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Norton & husband Bruce, and son James “Jim” Thomasson Jr. & wife Linda; sisters, Sharon Elliot, Linda Stone, and Joyce Gray; brother Charles May; many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Thursday, May 26th, at Sunset Funeral Home, Thonotosassa, Florida. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 27th, at 1:00 pm, also at Sunset Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
