Jose Antonio Miranda's Obituary
Jose A. Miranda (Tony), age 76, of Land O’ Lakes, FL, died at Advent Health Wesley Chapel Hospital on December 6, 2023, at 11:28 a.m. Tony was born in San Juan, PR, on April 17, 1947, to Martin and Ramona Miranda (both deceased). He was the first born of 10 siblings which include Juanita Falcon, Ana Maria and her husband, Walberto Cotto, Iris Teresa, Ricardo and his wife, Ivette, Luis Alberto, Delia Esther and husband, Simon Diaz, William and his wife, Gloria, Miriam, and Carmen Rosa. He also had 2 older siblings on his dad’s side, Martin Jr. (deceased) and Arminda.
Tony is survived by his wife, Eva, and his children, Jennifer and her husband, Jeffrey Jimenez, Sharon and her husband, Brian Gordon, and Jose Antonio and his wife, Melissa. He also has 5 grandchildren, William Tomasini, Shannon and Ryan Gordon, Liana and Kayla Miranda.
At a young age, Tony grew fond of cars. He developed his skills as a car mechanic foreshadowing his father. He graduated from Bullard Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport, CT in 1966 and married Eva Fonseca on May 31, 1970. His first employment was with UPS. He was also employed by Keating Ford, the Town of Trumbull, Laidlaw Transit, City of Bridgeport Transit and City of Bridgeport Police Garage and Highway Department as an automobile and heavy equipment mechanic.
After starting a family, he established residence in Puerto Rico where he lived for 15 years. He was self-employed and owned a Shell Gas Station and “El Progreso” Bakery in Vega Baja, PR from 1972 to 1986. Tony loved sports, was a big fan of the Mets, watching prize fights, was always ready to coach Little Leagues and proudly displayed all the trophies earned by his children. A big bragger, everyone who met him got a glimpse of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and other family members. Tony was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. A huge family man, his greatest joy was attending family gatherings, especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be provided by Sunset Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, FL with a viewing for friends and family to be offered on December 18, from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Rosary RC Church, 2348 Collier Parkway, Land O’ Lakes, FL on December 19th at 1:00 p.m. The Committal Service will be held after Mass at 3:00 pm at Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, FL.
