Janelle Owen's Obituary
Margaret Janelle Owen
January 20,1931 – January 25,2021
In 1949, Janelle Boswell met the love of her life, Bob Owen at Florida College. In 1952 they married and the love affair continued for 68 1/2 years. On January 25 Janelle left this world to go to the home she had lived her whole life to achieve, heaven.
Together Bob and Janelle worked for 40 years side by side preaching the gospel, in multiple community efforts, and as part of the Florida College family. She maintained the home as he preached and taught throughout the world. Being a homemaker was a job that Janelle loved. She was an active member in the church of Christ and was known for being an excellent teacher for children and women’s Bible classes. She epitomized a true “southern” lady, always immaculately dressed regardless of the occasion and known for her gracious hospitality. Many remember enjoying her “butters” and the “special sauce” on her ice cream.
Born in Lakeland Florida, Janelle was the daughter of Lee and Margaret Boswell. With the exception of three years away for her degree at Abilene Christian College (now ACU), Janelle lived the remainder of her life in Temple Terrace, Florida.
Janelle is preceded in death by her parents, Lee (Margaret)Boswell, her sister Patricia Lanier and her sister Jo Anne(Stafford) North and brother in laws Charles Branch and Jack Peddy. She is survived by her husband Bob Owen, her son Scott (Cecil) Owen, her daughter Jeni (David)Roberts, her sister Sylvia Branch, her sister Beverly Peddy, her brother-in-law Roy Lanier, her grandchildren Rob (Jenny) Owen, Brandon (Jannette) Roberts, Blake (Kerry) Roberts, Cole (Liz) Owen, Sara Owen and her great-grandchildren Claire Owen, Barron Roberts, Sam Owen, Ben Owen, Brenin Roberts and Kara Roberts.
Janelle will be laid to rest in a family only service on Saturday, January 30, 2021. She loved the Lord, she loved her family, and she loved serving others. For more than two decades Bob and Scott have done mission work in Ethiopia. Janelle’s support and contribution to this gospel effort was of great importance to her. In lieu of flowers, donations for this work can be made in her memory to the Barnabas Foundation, 413 Belleview Ave, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. Donations in her memory can also be made to her other love, the Boswell Endowment of Florida College.
