Grace M Thomas' Obituary
Grace M Thomas, 86, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 at Brandon Regional Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, September 2nd, 1931 to the predeceased M P Thomas and Saramma Itty in Mooledom, Kottayam, Kerala, India.
Grace was the youngest of five children, sister Mariamma John, and brothers M T Pothen, M T Itty, and M T Thomas. After graduating high school and earning her teaching degree, she became a teacher in Mooledom for 14 years where she met and married her husband Dr. Abraham Thomas, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C T Abraham, on August 20th, 1956. Grace moved to America with her husband and two sons in 1965 where she worked and attended two years of college in Los Angeles, California. Grace and her husband were active missionaries and were integral cofounders of the mission “Life for India” starting in 1969. In 1976, she and her family returned to the states and Grace then started as a bank teller and was later promoted to assistant bank manager. Grace was previously a long-time member of the Mar Thoma Church of Los Angeles, California and more recently was a member of St. Mark’s Mar Thoma Church in Tampa, Florida.
Grace is lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 62 years, Dr. Abraham Thomas, and her two sons Abe (wife Ana) and Tom (wife Susan). She will also be forever remembered as “Ammachi” by her four grandchildren, Nathan, Rebecca, Valeska, and Abey Emilio, and her extended family. Grace was loved by all who met her, and in return she made them family. To know Grace was to know unconditional love. Her unyielding faith in the Lord allowed her to love fully even on her hardest days and brighten up anyone’s day just with a smile. She always saw the best in people and went above and beyond for those in need. Truly one of a kind and a grandmother to all, Grace’s sweet nature and kindness made her a shining light in each life she encountered. She will be remembered forever and greatly missed by all.
The viewing will be Friday, August 17th, 2018 from 6pm to 9pm at St. Marks Mar Thoma Church in Tampa, 11029 Davis Rd. Tampa, Florida 33637. Funeral services will be the following morning on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at 10am at St. Marks Mar Thoma Church and the burial will follow at Sunset Funeral Home and Memory Gardens on 11005 N US-301, Thonotosassa, Florida 33592. A light lunch will be provided back at St. Marks after the burial.
