Ginger.
When you learned to walk,
Playing, jumping, laughing.
You always got their first.
I was just a step behind you.
When you cooked mud pies
Banging pots in the playhouse,
Water puddles and orange trees.
I splashed and piddled behind you.
When you started wearing makeup
I looked like a clown.
But, you tried to teach me how.
Since I was right behind you.
When you learned to sew,
Dressing up our dollies.
Making throw pillows.
I was the seamstress behind you.
When you planted the flowers,
Dodging wasps and petting kitties.
Garden dreams come true.
I ran in the yard behind you.
Then, Grandma left us and we grew up.
Driving cars and dating boys.
Lots of work and more work too.
I wish I had been much, much farther behind you.
Now you have gone to Heaven too.
You always got to go to Grandma's first.
But you better save a spot for me,
I still love you and will always be behind you.
