Fay U. Robinson's Obituary
Fay Robinson was born and grew up in St Mary with her parents and her sister Yvonne. Her father died when she was quite young and the girls persisted in their studies and both went to England to successfully study nursing.
Upon completing her training she returned to Jamaica to work at the then, University College Hospital in Kingston, the start of an illustrious sixty year career in nursing. A life-long commitment to learning resulted in her garnering degrees and certificates from tertiary institutions in the United Kingdom, the United States and Jamaica. She was actively involved in a diverse set of professional societies and received numerous scholarships, awards and commendations.
The breadth of nursing skills she competently demonstrated spoke to a suppleness of mind and an ease with complexity. Neonatal care, HIV/AIDS, mental health, social and preventative education, community outreach, and nursing education were all areas in which she made a sterling contribution.
Fay loved the Lord. One was always impressed that a deeply felt sense of spirituality was the bedrock of her approach to engaging others. She truly believed that one had a purpose in life and that with both practical and spiritual support one should strive to fulfill their God ordained purpose. Given her extensive and diverse experiences she was not naive about the ways of the world, of the all too human ways in which we could stumble and fall. Hers was an unblinking love that understood our imperfect nature, was forgiving, and in her own gentle way motivated one to strive that bit more.
Fay is survived by her son Patrick (Doris) sister Yvonne and numerous other family members.
The funeral services will be held at the Village Presbyterian Church 13115 South Village Drive, Tampa Florida. Visitation will be from 1pm and the service will begin at 2pm.
The graveside and repast will be at Sunset Funeral Home, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, Florida.
