On behalf of our dearly departed Dad and Mom who were good friends with John and Mary Philiph going back to the early 1960's, we share wonderful earliest memories living in Nigeria and more recent memories of meeting them again when they moved to the U.S. and and visited our family on numerous occasions in Nova Scotia from the 1970's through till 2010 when they came to attend Lester and Moneesha's wedding in Halifax.
Uncle John was always a good friend to us and was willing to provide help when needed. In the summer of 1974 our family decided to drive from Nova Scotia to Florida to see Disney World and we stopped in Maryand to visit the Philiphs. Uncle John offered to join us to help with the driving and offer assistance on our trip to Florida. He did the majority of the driving from Maryland to Orlando Florida where we visited Disney World and also did most of the driving back to Maryland. In 2010 when he and Aunty Mary came for the wedding, he helped set up and decorate the reception area in the church where the post ceremony dinner was to be held and after it was over helped with the cleanup.
He enjoyed exercising everyday and would walk daily and run regularly. Even in his older age in his 80's when he could not run, he would start his day with a walk using a walker and would find time during the week go to a local pool to swim.
He was interested in epidemiological studies and volunteered to take part in the National institute of Aging study in Baltimore which annually tracked the health of Americans age 75 and older. He would annually undergo physical and blood testing each and every year for this study and even when he and Aunty Mary moved to Florida he made a point to travel to Baltimore on the days when the testing was to be performed to keep an unbroken record of his data for the Study.
He loved dogs and he and Aunty Mary owned dogs which he enjoyed taking care of and walking regularly several times a day.
He was loyal friend of the family and a loving husband to Aunty Mary. He will be missed by us all.
