Edgar Norris Bedley's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow, yet steadfast faith in God’s eternal promise, that we announce the passing of Edgar “Ed” Norris Bedley, of Tampa, Florida. Ed was born on May 21, 1935, in Reading, Massachusetts, to Edgar and Marguerite Bedley. He went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2025, at the blessed age of 90.
Ed was a man who worked hard and had even stronger faith. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, often sharing stories of his tour in Germany where he worked as the equipment manager for the boxing team and was also part of the motor pool. His service and discipline shaped the man of integrity and dedication that he became.
Ed, with the unwavering support and partnership of his wife Delores, built a remarkable career as a businessman and entrepreneur. Together, they owned several car lots and two auto auctions, earning a reputation for honesty, integrity, and tireless dedication. Through their hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, they were able to save wisely and retire at a young age—a milestone that brought them both pride, gratitude, and the freedom to enjoy life on their own terms.
Beyond his professional success, Ed lived a life of purpose and faith. He worked on the Galcom Project, helping to drop radio transmitters and Bibles into remote regions so that people around the world could hear the Gospel. His missionary work took him to over 60 countries, spreading the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ.
Ed was a faithful supporter of the Church of God Headquarters and a devoted member of City Life/University Church for more than 30 years, where he served in many capacities—including with City Life Prison Ministries, sharing the love and redemption of Christ with those behind bars. He also enjoyed flying and was the proud co-owner and operator of a single-prop airplane—a reflection of his adventurous spirit and love for life.
As we remember Ed’s life, let us not mourn as those without hope, but rejoice in the assurance that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). His kindness, faith, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Delores Bedley; his devoted children, Shelba Christian, Gwen Burks, Kenneth (Tammy) Bedley, Roxann Baso (Mike Green), and David (Cindy) Bedley; and his honorary son, Javier (Debbie) Plasencia, Step-sister Francis Strange, many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of loving family members and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other loved ones who now welcome him into eternal rest.
Though our hearts ache at his departure, we take comfort in knowing that Ed has been called into the everlasting arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. His earthly journey has ended, but his soul now rests in perfect peace, surrounded by the glory of Heaven.
