James, Dorothy's Obituary
Early Monday morning, June 22, 2026, Heaven became an even more joyful place when the angels took Dorothy B. James home. She passed peacefully at Angels Senior Living ,The Reserves of Idlewild with her daughter, Dorothy, at her side. She is survived by her son, Tom James (Vivian) and daughter, Dorothy Brana (Raul), six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Born November 11,1921 in Taylor, Pennsylvania, she was104 ½ years old. If someone said she was 104, she would quickly remind them that she was 104 1/2.
Dorothy lived a full, active life including a rewarding career as a secretary and bookkeeper, primarily at Greco Jr. High School and Chamberlain High School in Tampa.
Dorothy’s faith was especially important to her. As one of the original founding members of Mission Hills Baptist Chapel, Dorothy remained active in the church as it grew into Mission Hill Church. She also served her community as a poll worker and volunteered for many years in the Book Nook at the Temple Terrace Public Library. She was presented a Certificate of Recognition at a Temple Terrace City Council meeting honoring her dedication to the library.
Dorothy was an exceptionally good cook and especially liked to bake. Anyone who came to the house could count on finding cookies (often more than one kind) and a cake or pie ready to be shared.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, crafts, and playing cards. An invitation to play cards—500 Rummy---was reason to stop whatever she was doing and grab a deck. At 104 1/2, she was still willing to play at anytime and was very capable of winning her fair share of games.
Accustomed to a lifetime of volunteering, Dorothy still had the desire to help others. Her family would remind her that she was definitely helping those around her. “You are living your life for others to see. You are an INSPIRATION to everyone around you.”
On June 22nd, God rewarded his good and faithful servant with a well deserved rest. Dorothy’s spirit and joy of living will continue to be a special inspiration to her family as well as all of those she has touched throughout the years. We were blessed to have her in our lives for so long and although we will miss her, she will always be with us through the cherished memories of our special times together.
As per Dorothy’s request, there will be a private service for the immediate family.
