David Alan Glenn Sterbutzel's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Alan Glenn Sterbutzel, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
David was a devoted family man, with the deepest commitment to protecting and providing for them in many ways. After retiring from Greyhound, where he was a respected and responsible driver for more than 33 years, he drove a school bus so that he could watch over the safe pickup and delivery of his children.
David loved to travel, but he was also so content to tinker with classic cars; several of which he owned, including his treasured Corvette-gifted now to his grandson. He loved to browse through junk yards for parts, especially with his wife to help him find treasures. But David wasn’t limited to restoring cars, he also loved going to car races, particularly Nascar. He was a gifted handyman as well, with plenty of projects going at any given time.
David also loved boating, jet skis, water skiing, just hanging out and talking with friends from both long ago and now. He would spend hours on the phone catching up, or he could be found at the fence talking with the neighbors about nothing and everything. He was funny, kind and generous. He would make time to speak with anyone who needed an ear, and he listened without judgement, and offered his shoulder or advice if needed. Everyone could count on his warmth and wisdom. Yet, he remained unaware of what a rock he had been for so many for so long. He was truly humble and deeply loved.
More than anything, David adored his family. He married the love of his life, Wilma, and over the course of nearly 44 years they raised 2 children and enjoyed 2 grandchildren together.
David is proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Phillippi Sterbutzel; 7 brothers, Raymond Sterbutzel, Robert Sterbutzel, Kenneth Sterbutzel, Carl Sterbutzel, Richard Sterbutzel, Donald Sterbutzel, and Vincent Sterbutzel; a sister, Mary Matzus; and 3 nephews, John Matzus, James Robert Sterbutzel, and Richard Layhew.
David is survived by his cherished wife, Wilma; daughter, Andrea Sterbutzel, and son, Adam (Dennie) Sterbutzel; 2 grandchildren, Cade Sterbutzel and Ellorie Sterbutzel; his brother, James Sterbutzel; sister, Lois Layhew; several nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 21st, from 5-7pm, at Sunset Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 10am, also at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N US Hwy 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
David will be loved and missed everyday by all who were blessed to have him in their lives.
