I remember when, as a child, I would wake up in the middle of the night sometimes, afraid of something. I might have had a bad dream or whatever. Dad was a night person and was often up when the rest of us were asleep. I would listen for the sound of my dad - watching tv, getting a midnight snack in the kitchen, even snoring, if he’d dozed off! I would hear the sound of Dad, knew he was there and that all was well, and I could be calm and go back to sleep.
Of all the things I remember of my grandpa, the one thing I’ll never forget is how he was a walking history book. He loved telling me and the family all about the different facts and things he had learned over his years. I will forever remember the question “what brand of car is the most reliable?” And my answer was “Toyota, cause it’s all you’ll drive” he looked at me and laughed hysterically and said “No, the best brand is the one you take care of.” And I took that answer and added it to so many different aspects of life. Grateful for the limited time I had with him.
