Christopher Colon's Obituary
Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, Christopher P. Colón, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jenny Balbas; his sister, Carmen Navarro; his brother, Thomas Colón; and his beloved daughter, Iris V. Feal.
He is survived by his loving children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren: daughter Lizette Espel (Luis), son Christopher P. Colón Jr. (Amanda), daughter Helen Colón, son Thomas Colón (Katie), daughter Angelica Donish (Bill), and daughter Cristina Michaelis (David).
A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was born to Puerto Rican descendants, Tomás Colón and Helen Laureano. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and the Reserves following the Korean War. After 33 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Building Superintendent for the United States Postal Service in New York City.
He generously volunteered his time coaching soccer and participating in Scouting alongside his children. He found joy in fishing, playing tennis, tossing a frisbee, playing the harmonica, a good game of dominoes or reading a good book to continually learn new things.
His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, as family was always at the center of his life and heart. A man of deep faith, he continually embraced opportunities to grow as a man, brother, father, and friend. Above all, he was a guiding light to everyone who met him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever, especially his infamous saying “Viejo pero Contento”!
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute, which he was so fond of and were helpful throughout his care.
