Cherian P Kurian's Obituary
Cherian P. Kurian was born on October 6th,1937, in Manganam, Kottayam District, Kerala, India and belonged to the Velangattu family.
Cheriachen went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2023, and passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, P.K. Kurian and Accamma Kurian, his wife Leelamma Cherian and his brother Avarachen. He is survived by his two children, Dr. Alice John and Tom Kurian, Dr. Lindsay John (Son-in-law), Caroline Kurian (Daughter-in-law);and two grandchildren, Lauren John and Christian Kurian. He is also survived by his siblings Thampan, Kunjunju and sister Kunjanamma.
Cheriachen started his career at the University of Chicago after immigrating to America in 1970. He and Leelamma moved to South Carolina, where he continued in his father’s footsteps as an entrepreneur in the 1980’s. They then moved to South Florida and retired to the Tampa Bay area.
Cheriachen was very active in the Mar Thoma Church and was instrumental in the founding of the Chicago Mar Thoma Church. He was the first choirmaster of this parish and served in numerous capacities such as a lay leader and member of the executive committee for many years. Cheriachen was also actively involved in the Florida parishes of the Mar Thoma Church, including the South Florida MTC, St. Luke’s MTC and St. Mark’s MTC in Tampa. His beautiful smile as well as his care and concern for others will always be remembered by family and friends.
Cheriachen was able to get through many challenges and tribulations in life with his profound faith in God. He lived his life to the fullest. He nurtured his passion for Christian devotional music, especially choral singing. We are thankful to the Lord Almighty for granting him a blessed life.
