Charlotte Josephine Sims' Obituary
Charlotte Josephine Sims, 80, of Valrico, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2022 with her family by her side.
Charlotte was born October 21, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Emil and Katherine (Kozel) Metz. Her family moved to Florida and she went on to graduate from Hillsborough High School in 1959. On February 6, 1960, Charlotte married Lonnie Sims. The family, along with many friends, has lost a wonderful human being. Her passions were travel and adventure. She always wanted to go off the beaten path and was able to travel to many countries across the world. Peru was one of her most favorite trips, trekking to Machu Picchu because she truly appreciated the history behind it. One of our favorite Charlotte quotes is “Why don’t we just go off the map?” She lived to make others happy. Her sense of humor and love of life will be greatly missed.
As a young wife, she began her work life as a legal secretary and served in that capacity for many years. Her attention to detail helped her excel in her work as it meshed perfectly with the legal profession. That same attention to detail later stood her well as a young mother proofing homework for her three children. One of the highlights of her career was serving as an aide to Senator Pat Frank, someone she greatly admired. Another highlight was working in the Court of Appeals where she spent the majority of her career, ultimately supporting Judge Altenbernd along with his team in an environment she really enjoyed. After retirement, she found fulfilment in her volunteer work at Brandon Hospital.
Those who will miss Charlotte the most include her husband, Lonnie, her daughter Patty Garcia and husband Ernie, son Jeff and his wife Eileen, son Larry and his wife Jennifer, grandchildren Vaughn Garcia, Bradley Sims and Courtney Sims, many close friends, and other family members including in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Charlotte’s life will be held on Wednesday morning June 15, 2022 at 10 am at Sunset Memory Gardens at 11005 US301, Thonotosassa where Charlotte will be put in her final resting place.
