Bernice Bings Dickson's Obituary
Bernice Bings Dickson was born in Arima, Trinidad, on June 26th 1943, to Walter Beresford Fitzpatrick and Claudine Simmons; the sister of Lloyd, Pamie, Vernie, Jenny, Godfrey all deceased, Cammis Lewis, Valencia Jones, Arhona Alexander. She was baptized at the age of 12. Bernice lost both of her parents at a young age. Her mom died when she was nine and then she lost her dad two years later at age eleven. She was very close to her dad who was a Jehovah's Witness. He named her Bings. She would go out on the field service with him up until he passed away. As she got older she devoted her life to Jehovah and remained a Witness until her final days.
She met her husband Martin Dickson at a district convention and later got married in Trinidad. Together they had five children. Shem, Jael, Abigail, Tancy and Walter. They later moved to St. Croix, USVI where they lived for thirty years. She also ran a successful childcare service for 4 years.
They then moved to Sarasota, Florida to be closer to family. They were married for forty two years until her husband passed away in 2002. She never remarried, instead her faith in Jehovah grew even stronger. She has 8 grandchildren Tessa, Marcus, Elizabeth, Nya, Dele, Sydney, Matthew and Micheal.
When she would go on the field service she would always find ice breakers to speak to sometimes the least interested individual by finding a way to relate to them. She always visited the elderly friends, many times taking them something to eat.
Bernice always had words of wisdom to share with those who needed it. Many know her for her affirmation of faith “Holding on tight thanks to Jehovah”. The life she led was inspired by faith, service, and joy, evidenced through her dedication to both her family and Jehovah. The legacy she leaves behind is one of pure and unconditional love.
She is survived by her siblings Cammis Lewis, Arhora Alexander and Valencia Jones and, her children Shem, Jael, Tancy and Walter, and her grandchildren, Tessa, Marcus, Elizabeth, Nya, Dele, Sydney, Michael, and Matthew.
