Barbara A. Hart's Obituary
Barbara A. Hart, 87, passed away May 19, 2016. She was born August 1, 1929 in Denver Colorado. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter Sherdine; son Larry; grandson Jamil; and granddaughter Carolyn; and Sister Mildred Jackson and like a son, Willie James “Buster” Hart.
She came to the Tampa Bay area in 1958 from Jacksonville, FL and was one of the pioneer members of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Thonotosassa, FL, Pastor W.L. Jackson. In faithful, dedication and commitment to her Lord and the church she served many years as Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher and Women Mission President, amidst many acts of service.
She was also very active within the community with the Sterling Heights Community Senior Citizen Center, a past officer with the South Florida Progressive Association; Dr. C. T. Kirkland, Moderator; a past officer and dedicated member of the Caribbean World Mission, under leadership of the late Dr. C.C. Carlman and also a member of the Second Saturday Prayer Ministry, Delores Hardy, president. Mrs. Hart retired from the Hillsborough County School System after 35 years teaching at the Paul H. Mort Elementary School. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, working with the Food bank, being a Sunday School teacher and working with the Mission Ministry.
Left to cherish her memory are a loving, caring and devoted son and daughter, Leon Adkins and his wife Angilen of Tampa; Barbara Ann Adkins of Thonotosassa; sister Elaine Brown of Detroit MI; Granddaughter Niya Cook and husband Larry and great grand, Elin; Great Granddaughters Alexis, Tatiana and Antoinette Cole; Great-Grandson Anthony (AJ) Cole and their father Anthony Cole all of Tampa, FL. Her extended families in Jacksonville FL, Mr. Laura Adkins, Mr. Wayne Adkins and Mr. Maude Adkins and Macon, GA, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Montford and daughter Regina.
Several nieces and nephews of Detroit and Jackson Michigan including a very caring and devoted nephew, Mr. Herman Brown and wife, Elise and son Ezra of Detroit, MI; Several cousins, one of whom, Mr. Shelby Weaver, Jr. and family, Tampa, FL. Three extended children and their families, Julia, Sylvia and Lemoyne Hart, Jr, all of Thonotosassa, FL; brother in law Mr. Albert Hart of Thonotosassa, Fl.
Mother Hart was a loving, kind and caring person, who gave her life to others as she emulated Christ in all she did and said. Her warm and caring spirit, her giving heart and her earnest desire to be a true servant was reflected in the many loving friendships and relationships she fostered along the way. Some of those who shared in these fond memories are Mrs. Gladys Gilbert and family; Mrs. Minnie Sullivan and family; Mrs. Florence Gordon and family; Atty. Delano Stewart and Family, Mr. Robert Cole and Family, Mrs. Evelyn Mobley and Family; Mrs. Artha Williams and family; Mrs. Cottie Mae Starks and family; Pastor W. L. Jackson and family, the Coopers, Singleton, Young, Linda White & family, the Theodore Moore family of Plant City, the Jordan, Garrett, Browns, Luke’s, Wilkerson. Kilpatrick, Martins, Wiggins, and Anderson families and a host of many, many more friends and family, which includes the Thonotosassa community, the Sterling Heights Senior Citizens, Officers and members of Congress #6, President Pastor Arthur Smith and the South Florida Progressive Association, and her loving and caring Church Family.
There will be a visitation on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 11005 N. US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, Florida 33592. Funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 am at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 6750 US Highway 301, Thonotosassa, Florida 33592. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Mother Hart was truly a woman of prayer, she would always say, “let’s pray” and “God loves you”. One of her favorite passage of Scripture the 23rd Palms and her favorite verse…”The Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want” provided her with much strength and comfort.
