Augustin Demetrio Ortiz's Obituary
Augustin Demetrio Ortiz was born on November 29, 1934, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. He passed away in his sleep on July 6, 2022. Deacon Augie is survived by his two sons John Ortiz and Dan Ortiz. He is preceded in death by his wife Frances Ortiz and by his mid-oldest son David Ortiz.
As a child, Augie moved with his family to New York City, where in his late teens he met his future wife, Frances. They married on July 9, 1955; and had three sons. They were married for almost 65 years. In 1960, Augie moved his young family from the big city of New York to, at the time, a rural Shirley, Long Island, to have new experiences. In the mid-1970's the family moved to Tampa, Florida.
Augie, always a hard worker, many times had more than one job. He also believed in service to others, and became very involved in the Catholic Church at Our Lady Of The Rosary parish. In June 1991, he became an ordained Deacon in the Catholic Church. He retired as a Deacon in 2018. His passions in the church focused on establishing a Spanish Mass, leading a Healing Ministry, participating in Rosary group prayers and Serving Youth. He is famous for giving everyone big hugs and making them feel welcome in the church. We will miss him, but we know he is reunited with his wife Frances in heaven.
